April 2005 Dave "Mr.
Load-in" Russell
Tour Manager
extraordinaire Dave "Mr. Load-in" Russell, who logged over 30 years in the
music industry, lost his battle with cancer on March 24. He was 50.
Russell worked with such artists as Talking Heads, Pink Floyd (sans Roger
Waters), the B-52's, and Tina Turner, and on a host of other projects. His
last major tour was Bon Jovi's Bounce tour, and he was featured in their
VH-1 "Command the Band" special.
Among colleagues in the industry, Dave Russell was known for his sense of
humor and genuine love of working in the music industry.
A statement on Bon Jovi's official website read, in part, "the rock and roll
world has lost one of their best. He will be sorely missed." We agree and
send our deepest condolences to Dave's family, as well as to his extended
family of touring brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Poppell, brother, and sister.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
