A mini lesson in music history.


The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years: Where are they now?

Perhaps you saw the 1988 rockumentary, The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years on the Sundance Channel recently and wondered whatever became of the bands and other assorted people in the film? Yeah well, so did we. Some people we couldn't find, so if you have current info, drop us a line (with a way to contact you if we have questions). This info is current as of September 2006.


Lizzy Borden
Reformed in 2004 as Starwood

  • Lizzy Borden - Currently in Starwood.

  • Joey Scott Harges - Currently in Starwood.

  • J. Holmes (Joe) - Went on to play with David Lee Roth & then Ozzy until 1998 when he became a born again Christian. J. rejoined Ozzy in 2000 for the Ozzfest Tour but hasn't been heard from lately. The two popular rumors are that he either died or is working on new projects in San Francisco. Joe, we hope you're alive and well and will give us an update.

  • Gene Allen & Mychal Davis - Anyone know what they're up to? Drop us a line.

Faster Pussycat
Dropped by their label in 1992; Broke up & reformed in 2001. Latest album The Power and the Glory Hole released July 13, 2006. Scheduled to tour the UK in September, 2006.

  • Brent Muscat - Played with L.A. Guns, the Liberators, Bubble, Superficial/Sinthetics, Adler's Appetite, and Sin City All Stars, has recently been diagnosed with oral cancer. We wish him well.

  • Eric Stacy - Played in bands Champagne, the Liberators, and Supercool.

  • Mark Michals - Played drums on the first two Faster Pussycat albums before being fired after an arrest for heroin possession.

  • Taime Downe - Was in various bands including Newlydeads with Kyle Kyle of Bang Tango; co-owner of the reopened club, The Cathouse in Hollywood with Ricki Rachtman.

  • Greg Steele - Anyone know what he's doing? Drop us a line.

Seduce

Odin
Currently writing new material for a possible 2007 release with its original members.

  • Randy O. - Formed The Lost Boys in 1988; still with Odin.

  • Jeff Duncan - Joined Randy O. in Lost Boys; appeared with Armored Saint & Birds of Prey; Currently in DC4 and still with Odin.

  • Shawn Duncan - Appeared with Armored Saint & Birds of Prey; Currently in DC4 and still with Odin.

  • Aaron Samson - Still in Odin.

London
After many incarnations, the band finally signed to a major label under the name D'Priest.

  • Nadir D'Priest - Has since recorded as a Latin artist under the name Antonio Nadir; has also been in other bands, including Steel Prophet. Was Project Director for the Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge CD Rom.

  • Lizzie Grey - Left the band in 1988 to form Ultra Pop and Spiders & Snakes.

  • Brian West, Shea Darek & Frankie Jones - Anybody know what they're doing? Drop us a line.

Vixen
Reformed; Still touring & recording.

  • Jan Kuehnemund - Reformed Vixen with two different lineups in 2001.

  • Roxy Petrucci - Currently in the band Roktopuss with Lorraine Lewis of Femme Fatale.

  • Share Pederson - Now goes by the name Share Ross; married Bam of Dogs D'Amour & plays bass with them; formed the band Bubble with Bam and sings lead; has her own Knit Addictions Blog and art website; she and Bam build websites for others and created Rock N Roll TV.

Aerosmith - Joe Perry & Steven Tyler
Still recording and touring.

KISS

  • Gene Simmons - Has also been acting & producing films; currently starring in his 3rd reality show, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Mondays on A&E.

  • Paul Stanley - Plans to release a solo album, Live to Win, in October with a club tour to follow.

Megadeth
Disbanded in 2002; reformed in 2004. Last album, The System Has Failed was released September 14, 2004. The band created a music festival called Gigantour.

  • Dave Mustaine - Recovered from an arm injury & rehab; reformed Megadeth.

  • Dave Ellefson - Formed his own band, F5. Also works with other bands including Temple of Brutality and Killing Machine.

  • Chuck Behler - Was replaced as the drummer by his drum tech, Nick Menza. Anyone know what Chuck's doing now? Drop us a line.

  • Jeff Young - Became a solo artist & overcame testicular cancer.

Lemmy of Motörhead
Lemmy Kilmister, who turned 60 last December, issued Kiss of Death," the 23rd Motorhead album, in 2006. 2006 also marked the debut disc, Fool's Paradise from Lemmy's rockabilly trio, the Head Cat. Motorhead  received its first Grammy in 2005 for "Best Metal Performance" with their cover of Metallica's "Whiplash."

Ozzy Osbourne
Still recording and touring. Starred with his family in the popular MTV reality show, The Osbournes.

Poison
Still recording & touring. Their summer 2006 tour raised eyebrows in Atlanta when a fight erupted between Bret Michaels & Bobby Dall on stage, and Michaels allegedly told the audience it might be the last they see of the band in "its current form. The U.S. tour ended on schedule a few days later, and the rest remains to be seen. Rumored replacements for Michaels reportedly include Johnny Solinger of Skid Row.

  • Bret Michaels - Still with Poison.

  • Bobby Dall - Still with Poison.

  • C.C. Deville - Still with Poison.

  • Rikki Rockett - Released a solo album; Still with Poison.

W.A.S.P.
In summer 2006, an abnormality was discovered in one of the arteries going to Blackie Lawless' heart. European dates have been postponed, but he is expected to make a full recovery; a new album is being recorded with new band members.

  • Chris Holmes - Left the band in 1990 and formed the band Psycho Squad; briefly married to Lita Ford; rejoined W.A.S.P. 1996-2001; toured with L.A. Guns; joined Randy Piper's band, Animal; left & now resides in L.A. where he produces and contributes guitar work for other bands.

  • Rik Fox - Rik continues to work in the music & film industries and works to raise Polish historic awareness. Meanwhile, debate continues over whether or not Rik was ever officially in W.A.S.P.

Alice Cooper
Got a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; Had his own radio show; Released his 24th studio album Dirty Diamonds in 2005; Owner of rock club/restaurant Alice Cooperstown in Phoenix, AZ.

Riki Rachtman
Host of MTVs Headbanger's Ball. Works in radio and has a skateboarding company; co-owner of and reopened The Cathouse in Hollywood with Taime Downe of Faster Pussycat.

Bill Gazzari
Died in 1991. The site of Gazzari's is now the Key Club.

The Cathouse
Opened in Hollywood in October 1996 at Osko's on La Cienega (below 3rd Street, near The Beverly Center; building has been demolished). Moved to Probe at 836 N. Highland; will reopen in October 2006 at the Key Club on the Sunset Strip.

The Director, Penelope Spheeris
Made Decline of Western Civilization III about "crust punks" and has directed various other TV shows and movies, including Wayne's World. She is currently working on a film about Janis Joplin, Gospel According to Janis.

Fans of the Decline of Western Civilization series are still waiting for those films to be released on DVD.
