Bio

Randi Reed has worked in an array of music industry settings over the years and has cross-referenced her expertise. She got her start when women were not encouraged to pursue business careers in music and worked hard to break through. Exercising a commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, Randi has met success; working at a major talent agency, serving as a personal manager, and now as Editor-in-Chief of her own publication, MusicBizAdvice.com.

MusicBizAdvice.com seeks to provide music industry information to its audience of recording artists, independent musicians, and music industry professionals in an accessible way.  The site's secondary audience is established music industry professionals from Randi's days in booking, management, and concert promotion. Her vast experience and network-building has culminated into a powerful resource for these audiences.

MusicBizAdvice.com was conceived in early 1997 by Randi Reed as a way to keep her music industry Rolodex active while she battled the often-debilitating symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS.) CFIDS is a non-contagious, little-researched, auto-immune disease that manifests itself much like Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE,) Fibromyalgia, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. The symptoms, while usually not life-threatening, can present muscular and joint pain, vertigo, macular degeneration in eye tissue, (causing disruption in sight), and a feeling of persistent flu. MusicBizAdvice.com created an outlet for her to remain active in the Industry while working around her fluctuating health status.

Known for her tenacity, it's not surprising that Randi would find a way to stay resourceful and active, despite the challenge. Most of the layout, topical outlines, and business model for MusicBizAdvice.com were designed on a legal pad from her bed.

The formula has proven successful, and MusicBizAdvice.com has been well-received by music industry professionals at the national level. Randi has built the site to include several useful segment full of real tools that performing musicians can apply to their daily life. The Body and Soul section, for example, offers sports medicine for musicians. Bus Fare provides simple, creative recipes that can be made in the confines of a tour bus galley. The MBADC Creativity Workshop is a series of writing exercises to help songwriters expand their creativity, and
Rediscovered  Talent, another popular section, was created to introduce younger musicians to influential artists from the past. The site also serves as an excellent source for student research, and provides college internship programs and mentoring programs.

MusicBizAdvice.com actively supports and endeavors to save historic music venues and other places of interest in entertainment history and Los Angeles history. One of MusicBizAdvice.com's favorite projects is the effort to save Pasadena's historic Raymond Theatre, which was Van Halen's pre-fame rehearsal hall and stands as one of the last remaining former vaudeville houses in the U.S.

Randi Reed made lemonade and a meringue pie when life tossed those lemons her way. She leads by example and makes a conscious effort not to become jaded. She respects the artists that she works with, and never forgets to be a fan. She imparts her extensive wealth of knowledge, and welcomes the opportunity to bring new people into the music industry.

MusicBizAdvice.com is steady in its growth and as of September 2008 has readers in 77 countries and territories. It is proof positive that you can make strides in the face of adversity, and that your career is what you make it.
