Cool Stuff We Love December 2006

Cool Gifts

Sharpie Mini

Our Ed-in-Chief was happy with the performance of original Sharpie markers (black or blue, thank you very much)...until Webmaster Extraordinaire attached a Sharpie® Mini to one of Ed’s Christmas packages...And Ed noticed the handy metal loop attached to the Sharpie Mini's cap.

“Hey, these are made for laminates!” exclaimed Ed. “They’re the exact size to hang off a lanyard.”

“Or a keychain,” offered Web.

“Or a tour bus Christmas tree?” wondered Ed?

Since Sharpie® Minis  don’t have the seemingly endless ink supply of their original counterparts, they’re probably not practical for every application. But for special jobs, like hanging around the neck of your handy dandy guitar tech, or fitting neatly inside the pocket of your manager’s pants, we think they’re just fab.

See’s Candies

Wanna send a gift to your favorite chocoholic? Your choices are many: you’ve got your Godiva, your Russell Stovers, your Ethel M, and a few European boutiques. Our resident on-staff chocolate gourmand (Ed again) has tried them all.

Ed’s favorite? See’s. (The favorite from the favorite? A two-pound Chocolate and Variety box, to be exact. Ed likes it instead of a birthday cake.)

Founded in 1921, See’s still makes many of the same recipes Mary See cooked up in her own kitchen. Ed loves the “freshness of the chocolate compared to other brands” (yeah, whatever). We love the fun of going into the ‘30’s-white-kitchen-look shops to make our purchase (and getting the day's free sample). But most of all, we all love that See's is easily orderable online and ships pretty much anywhere your former California chocolate lover may reside.

We also love that for those who’d like something yummy that’s slightly less caloric, See’s also makes a mean chocolate or butterscotch lollipop.

Finally, we love that See’s is even good for useless trivia: the downtown Los Angeles factory was the inspiration for Kramer’s Kandy Kitchens in that famous episode of I Love Lucy.
