Cool Stuff We Love March 2007

Cool Spring Cleaning

Method Air Enhancer Got a stinky tour bus? Method Air Enhancer is your ticket to ride. This stuff is like Fabreeze for the air, but natural and Ozone-safe. (And dare we say, with a fragrance that’s better-smelling and not as heavy as Fabreeze.)

For small spaces (like that stinky tour bus), we like the Sweet Water scent, which freshens the air without making the place smell girly…instead, leaving behind a barely-detectable scent that reminds us of fresh laundry.

Can’t sleep, or need to relax after the show? Spritz around a little Lavender-Lemongrass scent (also not girly) and have pleasant dreams.

We love that both scents are natural, non-toxic, non-aerosol, and non-destructive to the Ozone. (Not a sneeze, nor a wheeze from our chemically-sensitive Ed-in-Chief.)

Plus, being made of aluminum, the spray can is recyclable.

We also love that they’re double-concentrated so they’re easy on the pocketbook, and a little goes a long way (a 2-second spray is plenty in most cases).

Available at Target, and at some supermarkets and drugstores.

World’s Best Cat Litter

Being fairly low-maintenance but enjoyable of the good life, cats often reside in the homes of musicians and those who work behind the scenes. Until the recent passing of 22 year-old Natasha, our Ed-in-Chief’s home was no exception. (Yes, you read that right, 22!)

Being an indoor cat of an especially fastidious nature, Natasha preferred World’s Best Cat Litter, for her…[whispering]…
litterbox. In the Original Formula, please. Natasha’s people (i.e., Ed and family) preferred it, too.

Made from whole-kernel corn, World’s Best Cat Litter is scoopable, flushable, natural, non-toxic, organic, biogradable, and silica dust free. It’s safe for cats and kittens, and is even veterinarian-recommended for ill or anemic cats whose mineral deficiencies may make them eat other types of kitty litter.

In addition to the above, we love that World’s Best Kitty Litter contains no perfumes or synthetic chemicals, but keeps an even fresher litter box than the brands that do. We also love that it’s Earth-Friendly. (Ever seen pictures of a kitty litter mine?) We also love that the World’s Best Cat Litter company offers a money-back guarantee if you and your cat don’t like it.

Natasha’s people love that World’s Best has great clumping action without the cement-like binders in other scoopable litters (which can be trouble for long-haired cats who accidentally swallow it during bathtime). They especially love that it’s lighter to carry home from the store.

Finally, Natasha herself loved that its soft texture makes World’s Best Cat Litter easy to walk on, even for kitties with arthritis. And that it’s free of sharp edges, making it easy on one’s paw pads.

Come to think of it, Ed loves that too…World’s Best Cat Litter put an end to “Stray Kitty Litter Rock in the Shoe” Syndrome!

Available at pet stores.

Note: The World’s Best Cat Litter label says it lasts 30 days for one cat. For optimum cat health, Natasha’s people disagree with this recommendation, especially for older or immune compromised cats. Instead, Natasha’s people recommend a separate litterbox for each cat, scooping at least twice a day and adding new litter as necessary, then washing the litter box every 7-10 days with a non-toxic detergent such as Method dishwashing liquid. Dry thoroughly, refill with clean litter, and Kitty’s good to go. As for disinfectants, Ed says, “Bleach and ammonia don’t mix, and Lysol is poisonous to cats, so we focused on keeping the litter box really clean instead.”
