Cool Stuff We Love June 2005

CHOCOLATE MADNESS

Fox's U-bet Original Chocolate Flavor Syrup

Chocolate milkshake, anyone? Chocolate egg cream? If you've ever wondered why your favorite soda fountain treats never taste the same at home as they do from your favorite small-town proprietor, here's why; to make authentic fountain treats, you need this Brooklyn-born delight...not the stuff that hails from Pennsylvania. Fox's U-Bet Chocolate Syrup is so legendary amongst soda-fountain aficionados, we'll bet it was used at the malt shop where your grandparents met, and is the stuff your crazy Uncle Fred used to create chocolaty magic back when worked as a soda jerk in high school. Pssst! It's also Kosher and Fat-Free. (Careful though, it's still 120 calories per 2 tablespoon serving.)

Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookies--8oz. Trial Size

Got a cookie craving but don't want a whole batch? We exclaimed with glee when our Webmaster showed us this adorable trial-size roll of our favorite emergency cookie dough. A squat 8 ounces, it contains just the right amount of dough for 8 chocolate chip cookies--or 4 ice cream cookie sandwiches, if
that's what you have up your sleeve--and will fit in even the tiniest of freezers or ice chests. Like it raw? Crack it open and share with a friend. It's just the right amount, and you won't hate yourself so much in the morning. Available at supermarkets; we got ours at Vons in Burbank. http://www.pillsbury.com/

M&Ms Dark Chocolate Peanut Candies (Also available Plain)

It took some doing to find these in our neck of the woods, but it was worth the wait for these jewel- toned, Darth Vader-themed galactic versions of our favorite junk food candy. Encased in dark hues of blue, burgundy, grey, and of course black, is M&M's familiar roasted peanut...wrapped this time in dark chocolate. For newbies to the dark side, fear not...it's not the bitter kind of dark chocolate so many of us aficionados seek out. Our webmaster nukes them in the microwave for 45 seconds (in 5 second intervals) to get 'em good 'n' gooey, eating with extreme caution to avoid what could be one heck of a burn on the roof of the mouth. We'll get our danger elsewhere, thanks; atop vanilla ice cream is where we like our M&Ms best. Available many places M&Ms are sold, but sometimes not...A neighbor finally found ours at Toys R Us. http://us.mms.com/us/mpire/
