COSMETIC SURGERY & THE ARTISTS LIVELIHOOD
BA: The really important thing to consider is for the performing artist,
whether theyre a singer, whether theyre in entertainment, actor-model, etc.,
is that their profession has to be a consideration when a plastic surgeon or what we coin
the voice plastic surgeon deals with them. Because you have to tailor the operation to the
patient and not tailor the patient to the operation you know how to do. So you have to
really be sensitive
You have to really consider function--When youre doing
rhinoplasty think about their breathing and voice changes, when youre doing
facelifts think about their voice changes, and really think about the function as well as
aesthetics
Because this is their livelihood, this is what they are coming in to see
you for, and you cannot do something that will hurt their profession. You know, basically
a guitar player, having hand surgery. Its the exact same thing. A guitar player will
not just go to anyone to have hand surgery. They will research it, and they will really
really need to make sure the person whos doing it knows everything about them. Or a
surgeon wanting hand surgery. This is our livelihood. And for the performing artist, their
face, their singing ability, their function is their livelihood. Thats why
were really trying to create a center for performing arts medicine, so that we
address and really satisfy and take care of the special needs of all performing artists.
