MBADC Creativity Workshop FAQs
What is it?
A series of weekly activities designed by the editors of MusicBizAdvice.com to expand your
creativity.
What does it cost?
It's FREE!
Do I have to be a songwriter to participate?
No. While the MBADC Creativity Workshop was designed with the songwriter in mind,
anyone who wants to expand their creativity can participate. Whenever an activity is
specifically for a songwriter, we post an alternate.
Do I have to start from the beginning?
No. The MBADC Creativity Workshop is designed for people to jump in anytime. On the
rare occasion Workshop activities need to be done consecutively, we'll post links for each
part.
Why do I need a journal if the Workshop activities don't go together? Can't I just
use paper?
Keeping the journal gives you a potential source of material in the future. You can thumb
through your journal entries at a later date and perhaps find something to turn into a
song or final draft. Loose papers are hard to keep track of and not as portable.
Can I use my computer for the Workshop activities?
We find writing in a journal is more effective, because a journal is portable enough to
take anywhere. Also, the format of some of the upcoming Workshop activities would make it
difficult to do them with a computer.
Do I write the Workshop activities in essay form or lyric form or...?
Unless the Workshop activity specifies, you can do it any way you want.
Why are the activities posted weekly?
Because most people can find time to participate in the MBADC Creativity Workshop
once a week without stress. We don't want it to be stressful, and we don't want to
interfere with your usual writing schedule.
What's a "vignette"?
In the MBDAC Creativity workshop, a "vignette" is series of scenes that
could be fleshed out into a short story. Much shorter than a short story, a
"vignette" is usually one to two pages.
