ScamAlert!!!
MusicBizAdvice.com wants you and your money to be safe while you pursue your music
industry career! Following are some of the scams that are making the rounds of the music
industry...
SCAM: "500 Free Business Cards" from an online printing company.
FACT: While it's true the business cards are "free" except for postage
and handling, with some of these online printing companies, a monthly charge begins
appearing on your credit card or bank statement under another company name. Because of the
small dollar amount of the monthly charge (ranging from $7.95 to $15.95) and the fact that
the printing company did such a great job of printing the cards, it's often overlooked
until several months go by.
FACT: In the case of people we knew who experienced this scam, it just took one
phone call to the company to resolve it. But some people who have tried to stop the
monthly charge had to change bank accounts or cancel their credit card to stop it. Several
people have reported this company to the Attorney General's office in their state, and
investigations are pending.
BOTTOM
LINE: Be wary of online printing companies other than those who have an
established presence offline as well.
