ScamAlert™!!!

MusicBizAdvice.com wants you and your money to be safe while you pursue your music industry career! Following are some of the scams that are making the rounds of the music industry...

SCAM: Online Modeling and Talent Agencies

There are many online talent agencies where, for a membership fee, potential models can post their photos for talent scouts to "discover." Some of these sites even go so far as to have a "Become a talent scout" division for potential "talent scouts."

FACT: The term "talent scout" is usually a tip-off that the site is either a rip-off or cannot help you. Real "talent scouts" are not called that within their respective fields, except by the media.

FACT: People at casting agencies, modeling agencies, and talent agencies see enough potential models in person and receive enough photos through other means that searching online for "new faces" is unnecessary.

FACT: Good casting directors, modeling agents, and talent agents are too busy to spend hours online trolling for photos of "new faces."

FACT: The quality of many of the photos posted on these sites is often so bad it's of no use to a potential agent or casting director anyway.

FACT: No one gets a job in the legitimate entertainment industry by clicking on a "Become a talent scout" link. The old-fashioned way of starting in the mailroom or in another entry level position and working your way up is the only way.

FACT: When we clicked around on one website, the "Talent Scout" links were blank.

FACT: MusicBizAdvice.com does not link to, promote, or otherwise endorse online modeling agency websites. If you see our link on one of these websites, email our Editor with the name and link to the website.
