VOICE QUALITY AND SUCCESS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
MH: Singing in general requires a consistent voice that’s there all
the time. There are a lot of singers that have a lousy voice, but it’s there all the
time and they’re able to make money. People that have great voices but are
inconsistent can’t have a good career. It’s the really great ones that have a
great voice and they’re consistent--it’s there whenever they need
it—who are able to be very successful. That is the difference between success and
not: having something that’s consistent. Even people with lousy voices, if it’s
consistent, they’ll work all the time. The trick to maintaining a lifestyle in
singing is to learn how to care and feed the professional voice—how to take care of those vocal cords, how to take care of your singing voice so
it’s consistent…The most important thing that singers need to realize is that
care of their vocal cords continuously will provide long-standing professional voice
success [in their] careers.
